Horse Gram/Kollu gravy is one which we eat regularly in our diet. It is very very healthy and it has lots of medicinal values.

Horse Gram in English,Kollu in Tamil,Muthira in Malayalam,Kulith in Maharashtra, Hurali or Kudu in Karnataka,Gahat or Kulath in Northern India and Bionominal name is Macrotyloma Uniflorum, has medicinal values like,

1.)Has insulin which is good for Diabetes

Now let's see how to make this gravy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Serving           : 3 people

Cooking Time:12-15 Mins(Leaving back the pressure cooking time)

Ingredients:

1.)Horse Gram                        - As required

2.)Salt                                     - As required

3.)Onions                               - 2 Big onions(Chopped)

4.)Tomato                             - 1 Big one

5.)Amchur Powder/             - A pinch
    Dry Mango powder

6.)Milk                                -As shown (See the picture in the method)

7.)Bay Leaf                        - 1 no as shown

8.)Star Anise                     - 2 nos (Divided into halves)

9.)Chilli Powder               - As required

10.)Garam Masala           - One teaspoon(normal big spoon)

11.)Coriander leaves       - To garnish

12.)Sugar                        - A pinch

13.)Olive Oil                  -To saute




Soak the horse gram overnight and pressure cook it heavily so that it becomes soft and it will taste good only if it cooked softly.And leave some water in excess while boiling the horse gram.Because we will use this water itself for the gravy.

Method:

1.)Heat a kadai and pour little olive oil to saute.

2.)Now add the divided star anise and bay leaf and saute them till they turn light brown.


3.)Now add the chopped onions to this and fry until golden brown.

Note: Add 3/4 th of the onion to the kadai and keep the rest of the onion to grind .



4.)Now add the pressure cooked horse gram/kollu with the water in it to the onions.


5.)Now grind the extra onions kept along with the tomato and make a fine paste and add to the
    horse gram/kollu. And also add all the ingredients as said(No.2,5,9 and 10) and mix them well and
   add little coriander leaves kept for garnishing.


6.)Now after the raw smells of all the ingredients goes off, add milk as said and mix them well.



7.)Now garnish some coriander leaves again and serve hot with Roti/Chappathi/Steamed Basmati
   Rice or for any other dish you desire.An add some lemon juice to this gravy and then have it.
